Dr. Marion Smith, Jr. Joins the Board of Directors on the Black Education Strategy Roundtable
Dr. Marion Smith, Jr., Director of K-12 Learning, Leadership & Student Success here at the PSESD recently joined the Board of Directors for the Black Education Strategy Roundtable (BESR). BESR is the only Washington state-based organization with a specific focus on the education of Black/African American students. Through advocacy in coalition with others around the state, they work to improve public education from early learning through higher ed. Their constituency includes families, parents, educators, caregivers, friends and other interested adults, children and youth who want better educational outcomes for African Americans.
Their mission is to achieve systemic changes in education that result in excellence and equity for Black/African American students at all levels of education and their vision is to have 100% of Black/African American students graduating with a meaningful high school diploma and to be exceptionally prepared for college, work, citizenship and life.
Congratulations to Marion on this outstanding achievement. We look forward to learning from you and the Black Education Strategy Roundtable as we work to meet our END: Success for each child and eliminate the opportunity gap by leading with racial equity.
