One of the goals for the Communications Team in 2017-18 centers around increasing PSESD Staff engagement and participation, and boosting staff morale. The team identified at a retreat in August a number of department goals and strategies for the year.

Fun opportunities to meet and get to know staff all across the agency was one of the strategies the Communications Department clearly identified as a way to not only boost staff morale, but to be better at telling the story of PSESD.

Last month Communications hosted a popcorn party in Renton. Today, the Communications team took coffee and doughnuts to the Transportation Office in Pacific. The Transportation team was coming back from morning routes and before their safety meeting allowed the Communications team to chat and get to know them better.

“What is clear from years of feedback, and today’s excursion is that we need more opportunities like this,” says Director of Communications, Melissa Laramie, “It was a great opportunity to be face to face with direct service staff, and make sure they knew we appreciate them, we think about them and we are on the same team, even though our offices are 20 miles apart and our paths do not cross on a regular basis.”

Transportation staff shared their years of service, how they came to the PSESD Transportation Office, why the love driving bus and more. It was really an inspiring way to start the day for communication staff who work primarily in the Renton office.

If you have never been to the small, but warm and friendly Transportation office, next time you are heading south on 167, stop in and say hi.

Thank you to the Transportation Team not just for taking time out of your day for the Comms team, but for all you do each and every day for the students and families you serve. We see you, we appreciate you and we will be back soon!

Stay tuned for information on the next Communications gathering coming in December!
