Did you know that more than 6,500 parents learned solid parenting skills through United Way programs last year? Sherry was one of them. When Sherry, age 50, received custody of her 2-year-old grandson, Tramell, she felt she needed a refresher in parenting and some help with Tramell’s ADHD. She was excited to learn about United Way’s Parent-Child Home Program, which brings a parenting coach to the home and fosters the social and emotional intelligence to help children thrive. “The minute I saw that flier, I made the call,” she says. Now a home visitor from the Atlantic Street Center comes twice a week with books, toys and techniques to help Sherry connect with and teach her grandson.
