Take Our Future Leaders to Work Day – Thursday, August 22, 2019
Puget Sound ESD will celebrate Take Our Future Leaders to Work Day (formerly known as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day) on Thursday, August 22. This event shows our youth what a parent or mentor in their lives does during the work day, while supporting the values of their education and helping them discover the power and possibilities of a balanced work and family life. It also provides our youth with an opportunity to share how they envision the future and encourages them to begin steps toward their goals. Activities will be geared toward youth in grades Pre-K through 12.
9:20 – 10:45 | Plant the Seed so They Can Lead – Activities hosted by the Leaders in Training (LIT) High School Summer Interns
10:45 – 11:00 | Closing
11:00+ | Following the final activity, parents/guardians/sponsors escort their sponsored youth to their workspaces/worksites to show them what it is that you do, and for some meaningful conversations regarding their goals and dreams for their future.
This year’s theme is Plant the Seed so They Can Lead. Join us in showing our future workforce that just like plants have their necessities to grow, people benefit from support, collaboration, and leadership skills to thrive in the workplace. Let’s get our future leaders eager to build these skills. Plant the seed of knowledge today so that it becomes a vigorous plant tomorrow!
If you are interested in bringing your child(ren) or sponsored youth, please follow the process outlined below:
Check with your supervisor to confirm that your work environment is conducive to bringing children/youth to work
Confirm with your supervisor an appropriate duration to have your child(ren)/sponsored youth in your workplace, and then return your child(ren)/sponsored youth to school, home, etc., as appropriate and agreed upon with your supervisor. Children/youth must be supervised by their parent/guardian/sponsor at all times, including during the welcome session and activities.
Upon approval of your supervisor, please RSVP to Take Our Future Leaders to Work Day by Friday, August 9 (this will ensure we can adequately plan for the appropriate number of children/youth) by emailing Samantha Castro-Olea via email@example.com. You may include any questions you may have about the event.
Please provide the name(s) and age(s)/grade level(s) of your child(ren)/sponsored youth.
Please provide a photo of your child(ren)/sponsored youth that we may include on their ID badge they will receive on the day of the event. Your child(ren)/sponsored youth will still receive a badge without their photo if you do not wish to provide one.
Linked here is a photo waiver regarding your permission for us to capture photos and/or videos of your child(ren)/sponsored youth on the day of the event. If you will be bringing a sponsored youth, their parent/guardian will need to sign the photo waiver. Photo waivers will also be available the day of the event.
Although it is summer, if needed please click here for an Excused Absence Form for your child(ren)’s school.
We look forward to seeing you and your future leaders
