Welcome Nelly, Our New Early Learning Program Services Director!
We are excited to share that the Early Learning program will be welcoming Nelly Mbajah as the new EL Program Services Director on January 2nd! Nelly brings a wealth of experience in early learning and statewide work focused on children and families. In her career, she has provided direct service as a teacher at Childhaven and as an Early Head Start Education Coordinator at Children’s Home Society. She has most recently worked for the Children’s Administration in a variety of roles, first at the local level and then at the state level for the past 6 years. Some of her roles included the Statewide Early Childhood Development Program Manager, the Permanency and Placement Supervisor (mentoring and guiding statewide program managers), and most recently as the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Administrator for DSHS Children’s Administration.
Nelly was described by the various hiring panelists as someone who holds a strong interdisciplinary lens, is strengths-based, is a systems thinker, and holds a strong racial equity lens. They also felt that Nelly has the ability to prioritize and juggle competing demands, has a strong and supportive approach holding families at the center, is passionate, and has a history of being effective in her leadership. This process was not an easy one as we had a very strong pool of 20 candidates that we needed to whittle down. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who was a part of this process, including the wonderful internal PSESD candidates who applied, and everyone who served on any of the panels. Please stop by and introduce yourself to Nelly in the days and weeks ahead. She will be in the office space between Talena and Kay in the Early Learning wing of the 2nd floor.
